sensitivity reading by hannah

Sensitivity Reader: One with knowledge of certain subjects who reads through stories or manuscripts to make sure there is nothing offense in their field of knowledge.

Qualifications: It’s called life. I only read for things I have personally experienced, mental illnesses that I have professional diagnoses for, such forth and so on. (Concerning my mental health, I have done extensive therapy and research, as well.)

What Will I Read: Short stories, manuscripts around/under 200k words. Genre does not matter to me. It doesn’t matter if it’s first in a series or fourth; I am here to comment on what is currently going on. If it’s longer than 200k words, I am open to discussion depending on my health and energy levels.

What I require: Either a Word doc or a Google doc.

What I will provide: Your document returned to you with tracked comments, problem areas highlighted and explanations as to what is offensive/incorrect and why. I will usually offer different words you can use or different ways to portray what you’re trying to get across. I only provide my thoughts on the story as a whole if you ask.

How long it will take: I usually plan for a day or two. If something drastic comes up where it might take a little longer, I will let you know.

Pricing: It is my goal to make this affordable to all levels of income. That being the case, I have a base of $20 USD. If you are in a position where you can afford to pay more, then I am relying on the honour system and your decency as a person.

Payment Forms: I can take Venmo or Paypal.
